This was good back then...their prices went up...if mine do I'll be called a crook. You can get an idea of how expensive these things can be. Remember that they only saw a photo of the maquette and this quote reflects their making the monument from that. What they don't know is that there is a lot more detail than I put on on the model, and it's the detail that runs up the bill. Besides, they haven't got the expertise or experience to do the job I would...that aint bragging just the facts "ma'am".
In the real world, you know where you all negotiate for a fair salary and settle for all you can get away with...I should be getting paid twice this cost for the "artist's fee"...that's basic and bare minimum stuff in the profession...of course people take less...but they seldom accept nothing and allow themselves and their family to be called names into the bargain. Do proud and GRAT PEEPIL do these things?
The fee here should be $300,000.00. I'm as eager for gain as the next person, but you can see what I go through to do the work for cost, can you imagine what they'd call my dead father if I expected to make any profit???
The rubber mold alone is $19,000.00 That's for ONE use of it, unless of course we make another one. I do the work the common foundry laborer does...that's like an Assyrian surgeon agreeing to an orderly's salary just to be able to treat an Assyrian, and get roundly insulted for it too. Grat Peepil???
