Arbil-Kurdistan on 2nd September 2001. Yesterday 400 more Kurdish families returned to their original homes after living at other places for many years because of the exceptional circumstances in Iraqi Kurdistan during 1994-1997. A source from the Coordinating Committee of Peace Process between Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), headed by Barzany, and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), headed by Talebany, has confirmed that 200 families have returned to Suleymania and another 200 families have returned to Arbil. This is the 5th round of displaced families returning to their homes so far this year. Many other families are waiting to go back to their original homes.

On the other hand, an informed Kurdish source told A-sharq Al-Aussat that Iraqi Government recently has changed the ownership of some Kurdish villages to the name of an Arab tribal chief loyal to the government. These villages are under government control and near the line of contact between Kurdistan region and government-controlled areas.

The source reported that the government has changed the ownership of the villages Minara, Likan, Kura, Baqirta and Sian in Makhmoor near Arbil. The new owner is an Arab Tribal Chief known as Sheikh Zedan. This is without paying compensation to their original Kurdish owners. The source pointed out that this comes within the campaign of Iraqi government to change the identity of Kurdish and Turkman areas in Iraq.
