Dear Mr. Parhad:

From our point of view as a public college, our agreement with you to hold
this debate between Dr. Ross and you was primarily for the educational
benefit of our students. Most of our students attend during the day, so many
of our students would not have the opportunity to attend a 7 p.m. event. In
fact, after some discussion with colleagues and President Wieder, we thought
it better if the debate were held at noon or 12:30 p.m., rather than at 2
p.m. However, President Wieder did suggest that we could arrange to
videotape the debate and supply you with a copy. Then, "the people most
eager to hear the debate," as you put it, would be able to review the debate
at a later time, should they be unable to attend a lunchtime event. OK?

We have not yet finalized the idea of an intro by a History Professor. That
was just a thought that Dr. Ross and I had in order to put the debate into
some kind of context. We certainly do not have anyone in particular in mind
at this point. Are you uncomfortable with this idea?

Let me know your thoughts about having the debate at noon on September 24,
2001. After I hear from you, I will proceed to the next step of arranging a
location for the debate.
