I understand the desire to stress the positive, but being blind only trips you up. There is no such thing as a "perfect" state of existence. Our community has glaring flaws that can't be smooted over. There may nave been only one minor fight, but I think it was significant that two policemen and two hotel security people got away with punching and clubbing an Assyrian kid who at no time offered any resistance...in the back no less.
There were many things that were unprecedented, not just the artwork packets...Jackie couldn't have written this glowing report any better...some would say Jackie DID write the report. It simply isn't true that "we'll be seeing you next year". Even before this convention the Hyatt in Detroit turned us away for next year...now it's a certainty. If they manage to get a Motel 6, will Jackie and Zinda gloat?
It wasn't Jackie's fault that the conventions have been getting worse and worse...while some partygoers are having a good time, Hotel Management is blowing steam and smoke. Our having a "good time" isn't the standard of measure among Hotels, or anywhere else out there.
Would a convention be a failure if people DIDN'T have a good time, but the Hotel was satisfied?
Having a "Good Time" is a value among heedless teenagers or children...there should be some other standards for adults. How much money was made isn't exactly a nationalistic goal...I mean what's the difference between $10,000.00 profit and $45,000.00 to get so all fired excited over...you guys ever seen money before...is that big bucks? Does it matter if it is?
You'd think the Federation existed to make money and give a good time...Hooker's Ball anyone?
