Noam Chomsky is a great thinker and writer. It's refreshing to see that ordinary Americans as well as politicians of some depth such as Senator Patrick Leahy are calling for calm and reflection...not rushing to destroy our Constitutional rights which make America what it really is, not what it is becomming. Some even spoke up for the desperate conditions people of Arab descent have been subjected to and how we all bear some responsibility for that...and that they are NOT filled with hatred for Democracy or Liberty but it is their frustration at being denied these things which has made them inhuman...with our help.
It's ironic that it might take this action to wake Americans up to the fact that they are as much a part of this planet as the rest of the people and they can no longer hope to be isolated and insulated form the consequences of their stupid, thoughtless and uninformed actions. It was a foregone conclusion that the action against Iraq and Palestine would produce retaliation...just as surely as any act of the US now will. All we've suceeded in doing is refining the tactics and quality and determination of those we have routinely dismissed as unworthy of Life and Liberty and happiness.
I am ashamed that our own people have joined in this jingoistic ass kissing of the United States...while all the time maintaining distance from the suffering of our own people.
America has always been saved by its people, by their ultimate good sense and compassion...pray it takes hold quickly before these right wing Christian zealots trip us over the edge into Armageddon...the battle between Good and Evil they seem to long for.
