As a result of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the FBI has a critical need for additional linguists with a proficiency in English and one of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, and Pashto. Candidates interested in becoming contract linguists for the FBI in these languages are requested to apply on-line at www.fbijobs.com.
Minimum qualifications for the FBI's contract linguist program are: United States citizenship; permanent residence within the United States for at least three out of the last five years; and ability to pass a proficiency test, polygraph examination, and a 10-year scope background investigation. Upon the successful completion of a candidate's processing, they will be offered a contract linguist position with the FBI. The hourly rate currently paid for contract linguist services varies from $27 per hour to $38 per hour.
