Phone Wave protest against sanctions on Iraq Tuesday 20 November 2001
The aim is that as many people as possible will mark Universal Children's Day by phoning the Foreign Office and explaining their opposition to economic sanctions on Iraq.
What it is
The Phone Wave is intended to highlight the role of sanctions in Iraq’s humanitarian crisis. In particular, we wish to make clear to the Foreign Office that we reject the ‘smart sanctions’ proposals that are being prepared by the UK and US, but which will bring little or no relief to the Iraqi people.
When to call
To minimise overlap and engaged tones, organisations will be allotted timeslots between 9am and 3pm, while individuals are free to call any time between 3pm and 5pm
Whom to call
The person to call is Mr Tim Stew at the Iraq Desk of the Foreign Office:
020 7270 3743. Please remain calm and polite throughout.
The back up telephone number is the Middle East Section of the Foreign Office:
020 7270 3757
