One more thing...while the dreaded Communists of old were more often Asian in our nightmares...they could just as easily have been white Russians or Latins looking like anyone else in the world or this country. In fact, back then, we did not expect to think "Communist" when we looked at one of "us".

Now the Terrorist is clearly a person of color...more often than not, OUR color. They never bothered to remove white men with crew cuts from airplanes or "detain" thousands of them after Timothy Mcveigh killed hundreds of people in Oklahoma with a truck bomb. That would be pointless and who knows how many other creeps got clean away because they looked "normal"?

But this time the enemy is "US"...and no matter how many American flags you fly, the day can easily come when that will simply convince white folk that you are "deceptive" and "clever" as well as a potential danger to "our way of life". The military commissions (they didn't like the sound of "tribunal")set up to try the detainees at Guantanamo will be able to keep people in jail even if they can't find proof of their guilt, until the "war is over". And if it is to be the long, protracted seige we are being prepared for...it just might come to pass that suspicious people...people too clever to be caught with damning evidence, will be "held" for the duration because in a war, you can hold all combatants until hostilities end.

What happens when one day, we Darkies decide to protest some future outrage against our people over there? Will we be seen as aiding and abetting the enemy? Will we be a fifth column just because we wish to exercize what is still a right to protest, promised us in the Constitution? During the Vietnam War Jane Fonda caught a lot of heat for visiting Hanoi and speaking well of the "enemy". But that was a war against another nation, not the amorphous War on Terrorism that has already seen Assyrians and others dragged off of planes or shot and killed. In this new age of perpetual warfare, any sort of protest against our government could be seen as an act of "terror collusion" against the people of America because there is no one country we are at war with...just a vague and unspecified enemy that sort of looks like US and can be hiding out in ANY country... even in this one.

This raises the stakes particularly high and may make any sort of valid protest against government policy, a hallmark of our democracy and something the Founding Fathers knew we would HAVE to have in order to discourage a "legitimate" Tyrannny imposed on us by some means...an offense punishable by incarceration It could become a legal offense under new War Powers Acts to even utter a word of disapproval. Well...who would have ever thought the Land of Lincoln or Kenneday, would become the kindergarten of Bush, or that the United States would pursue a policy of murdering Iraqi children?
