The prize, to me at least, is still to get us recognition out in the world. Our ultimate fate will be determined not by who throws the best party or makes the most amount of money from one. We can preach to each other forever and we will only attract the misfits and geeks of Assyria. Our dynamic young people will increasingly have nothing to do with what seems to be a private sanitarium for the criminally dumb.
A few days ago I fielded a call from Dr. Joel Elias. Dr. Elias is a staunch supporter of the Berkeley Association, taught at UC Berkely and is retired now I believe. I was staying with a friend and took the message. That done, Dr. Elias asked whom he was speaking to...and I went and told him, t'was I, the "Crook of Assyria". After a few pleasantries he said he just had to tell me that all ten of his grandchildren insisted they each had to have the AAS calendar with the photographs of some of the overpriced and cheap crap I have made over the years...that these calendars were displayed in each kid's bedroom and very much enjoyed and appreciated by said grandkids.
And there, boys and girls, you have your answer if you are really concerned with this magnificent heritage. Our only hope is our children and they are more than willing and eager to have pride and take an interest AND feel pleasure in their Heritage...if these goddamn leaders from hell will get out of the way.
If Jackie had her way, those children and many many more would never know of me because I made "trouble" for her personally.
They could all go look at the the three pots Ms Chazev brought, with pride, to the convention.
Go Jackie!!!...straight to hell.
