A few years ago there was a debate about the mideast conflict and one of the participants said "Where are the water cannons?"

He later elaborated: he was referring to the 60's when there were so many protests which were dispersed, often times, with water cannons, tear gas, etc.

I read today that Egypt uses water cannons and tear gas to disperse protestors near college campuses and on the streets, etc... so my question is, why have the Israelis chosen to shoot and kill Palestinian children who throw rocks at them instead of using water cannons, tear gas, or some other less-lethal methods??
