I never understood why the writings of the Matthew, Mark, Luke, and JOhn were the only ones out of many to be considered "canonical." It's good to always ask questions and challenge the authority so that you can get your own answers, to your own questions.
If view of this, when I was in the rut of all ruts in my life, I chose to seek motivation or an answer to that unanswerable questions everyone asks themselves at such times. I chose the avenue that was familiar to me: Religion. Doctrines (like Pacem en Terris and others) and church dogmas reinstated that there is still good to be done in the world. I've found that through the message of possibility of world Peace that Pacem en Terris sends, I have regained hope and am willing put all my efforts into taking another step that will lead to the realization of this great ideal. This document is one that has inspired me to do so many things that I would not have done. It's not my only source of motivation and inspiration. I have my whole ancestry to look at as well. As Gandhi always says, we've got to make up for 2000 years. I look at all that our forefathers (Hammurabi, Shamiram, Tiglat-Pileser, all the scientists, artists, and farmers of their time)and try my best to live up to their standards. I have you and those around me to admire; and try to better myself through the examples that you set; even though you may not want to be a leader or role model of any sort,you are.
To some people, things like dogmas and doctrines are there just for order and clarity. For others, they in stir up something inside you that motivates you to do whatever (change something, create something). That's what it did for me.
