They may fail, but in the process they had one hell of a party... built one hell of a monopoly, and left one hell of a mess for their grandchildren to clean up.
We learned in Radiation and Environmental physics that before the environmental laws were passed, the nation's rivers (this nation!) would spontaneously catch on fire, all around the country. IT was so bad, they had fire squads in every major city specifically FOR THE RIVER FIRES... all because there was so much damn polution. One of the mayors in Ohio got so sick of it, that when the president came to visit, he told the firefighters to let the rivers burn, and only then did the president realize how fucked up everything was.... and the environmental laws followed.
Maybe, just maybe if we are lucky we will see those fires again in our lifetime.
Sheesh.
