I haven't read this book yet, but everyone who has is floored by it. The cross, had it been put there would have not only symbolized what you already mentioned, but it would also symbolize the strength of the spread of this particular form of Christianity (which is really really bad), or the strength of this kind of Christianity. Thank God, Ashur, Yahweh, Ahura Mazda, and Brahma that the Church got a wake up call after WWII (one can never forget the millions and millions of people killed over many generations at the hands of "Christians"). Global justice all the way! A new movement is taking place in the church in recent times, like a reformation. Instead of looking the other way while others around the world are suffering, it's actually addressing the issues. I just wish they'd play a bigger role in the Middle East (especially with the Sanctions).
That last comment can lead to another topic of discussion. Why the ROman Church hasn't taken the initiative to really help the Middle East. There are human lives ending by the hundreds everyday with no attempt to stop that by the Euros... A human life is as precious as the next and the Church, in doctrine, does not exclude other faiths...Not cool at all.
Take it away fred!
