Sociology, like Psychology like Economics too, suffer from trying to be "scientific"...when they're closer to poetry than anything else.
When one professor thinks you didn't "follow the letter" in an assignment...and also happens not to like your poetic soul...he or she can grade you down for that...whereas another one, moved by the poetry, overlooks the fact you didn't dot your "i's" and cross your "t's".
The one who flunked me said I didn't confrom to the rules he'd laid down...you can imagine how well we got along to begin with. The one the department head chose...whose grade would be final...wrote in support of his grade that I'd captured the essence of the best work in Sociology...which has as it's aim not correct grammar but some ideas...new and usefull ones preferably. Still...it shocked the dept head that one paper covered the extreme ends. The second prof isn't allowed to know what grade the other one gave...and I didn't tell him. However...it was a delight to know the first prof knew...hehehehehe.
