I was saying that I attended Finnish/Scandinavian cultural events because I'm half Finnish (& therefore part of the community) & there actually existed a Finnish-American community where I lived which celebrated things like Midsummer & Finnish Independence Day & did other things like put up a Finnish Christmas tree at the local library & provide Finnish music at local events, etc. Therefore I naturally know more about that culture & feel more inclined to remember the holidays, rituals, etc. associated with that culture, not to mention the adorable, blonde hockey players.

THE OTHER HALF OF MY HERITAGE IS CHALDEAN/ASSYRIAN, & I was not made to attend cultural events etc. for that half of my heritage because there was NO community of Chaldeans/Assyrians in my home town. None.

HOWEVER, I was forced to participate in uniquely "American" cultural events & to learn an "American" folk dance at school just because those things are part of the culture that surrounded me when I was growing up. SO, in some ways, I know more about this blasted German/Scots-Irish culture than I do my own Middle Eastern heritage.

Gosh, you don't know a bit of Finnish at all - it's not related to ANY Germanic, actually any Indo-European, language at all.
