+++I swear! If EVER you wanted to entertain the notion that there are "traitors" among us set on "destroying" the Assrin Peepils...you'd have to look no farther than to our patriots and nationalists and representatives who've made it just about as humiliating as can be to own up to being Assyrian. read 'em and weep.

Dear Mr. President,
As it is known, in the past few months the change of anti-democratic regime in Iraq has been occupying the world agenda. This is particularly owed to the initiatives and afford led by the US. As part of this progress certain political and military steps have already been taken, which has created ground for search and expectations for a "Post-Saddam" administration in Iraq. With the support of the US, Iraqi Oppositions came together to discuss a common and shared future for all national and religious groups who are living in Iraq.
We found your statement of December 2002 very constructive, which recognises and supports the Assyrian people. Until this statement the Iraqi Opposition had never taken the Assyrian question serious and they tried to keep the Assyrian issue subordinate to their own aim.
After a long deliberations and consultations, the Iraqi opposition sat a conference in London, in 13-16 December 2002. In this conference vital decisions and resolutions have been taken, which are detrimental and have long-term consequences over the Assyrian people. If these decisions are to be implemented, as it expected, it will profoundly harm our people. For example one of these resolutions, in a Post Saddam administration, is declaring the official religion of Iraq is Islam. This obviously consists Islamists intentions "Sheriat" and singles out other religious in Iraq like Christianity, Yezidis, Jewish, Mandi and other faiths. By doing so, they aim to bring one Fifth of the Iraqi Non-Muslim population under the Islamic hegemony.
Furthermore, the given ratio of the Assyrian representation is a long pursued and unjustifiable policy. The opposition has established the ratio of the Assyrian representation as 3 percent. Based on the potential of the Iraqi population this decision is neither objective nor democratic. According to the pre1991 Gulf War census the Assyrian population in Iraq is 2 millions therefore based on this figure, the Assyrians should have no less than 8 percent representation in any form of entity.
Under this circumstances, we do not accept and we are doubtful of any democratic changes in Iraq based on the conclusion of the conference that took place in London. United States and other powers must intervene to rectify these decision in order to create a democratic Iraq.
Under the current 3 percent Assyrian representations in the Iraqi Opposition, the Assyrian representatives have been incompetent in defending the rights of our people. In the selected the Iraqi Opposition Coordination and Follow-up Committee (also called the Leadership Committee) of 75 members, the two Assyrian representatives Mr. Yonadam Kanna and Mr. Albert Yelda do not possess the power or have the capability of protecting the Assyrian interest. They presented weakness and passiveness in very submissive manner, by not objecting to decisions concerning our people, in the conference in London.
Mr. Yonadam Kanna, Secretary General of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, is a person who is after his own interest rather than the Assyrian interest. He is acting under the instructions of Kurdistan Democratic Party. Even people in the group that he is belong to have expressed their concern and dissatisfaction over his manners and personality, in pursuing individual interest. Therefore, this person, apart from a small group of individuals has no support from the wider Assyrian community either in or outside Iraq.
Also the other representative Mr. Albert Yelda has no support based on masses nor he is representative of any national institution within the Assyrian community. Therefore his appointment as an Assyrian representative was ill-thought decisions, which will undermine the Assyrian interest.
As a result, we demand the removal of these two appointees, Mr. Yonadam Kanna who has been acting under the political instructions of Kurdistan Democratic Party and pursuing his own interest and Mr. Albert Yelda. And to replace them with representatives who are selected unanimously by all Assyrian Parties, groups and organizations.
Yours sincerely,
Fikri Aygur
