I found myself drifting into the cadences of his voice as I read this, remembering hearing the man speak. It's Jazz and Blues...the best.
I'll grant him everything except the allusion to armies and navies not being able to affect the soul of humanity. These armies and navies march under the banner of Christ...but then when the Pope takes the title reserved for Roman emperors of "Pontifex Maximus"...what would you expect...and isn't it Christianity's utility as an instrument in the hands of emperors that saved it from oblivion.
He was a Christian himself, naturally he is besotted with Christ...but, to his credit, he also accepted all faiths as co-equals.
Then again, had it not been for Malcolm X, standing just over King's shoulder where the white man could plainly see him, I doubt King would have been as effective politically, though he also paid the ultimate price.
And as a final observation, Jackie Bejan is not only the drum major, but the strings, wind, and big brassy band all rolled into one.
