: his categories are sharp,but i definitely see them characterizing a lot of people, especially in academia. that whole "disinterested, stoic public servant." i know that they have a lot of usefulness...in their own way, but at the same time there is that implicit fear of really challenging big issue s like racial or gender inequality. and i saw it in myself too, that inherent weakness to be passionate. i think i grew up thinking that too much passion is a bad thing and scientific objectivity was the way to go.
xxx Another stereotype - scientific objectivity. It doesn't exist in the sciences. People there get so emotional about their work... I think the people who are "objective" & not emotional are the ones who don't care about their work.
