"Your complaints are solely directed at one singular grouping, your own. You are most critical of them (the Christians who are your ancestors for the last 2,000 years.)" Paul Younan.
Khizma Paul,
I think we must be critical of Christianity because it's based on the Jewish Bible which on deeper reflection is in fact not PRO but ANTI-ASSYRIAN.
I mean let's forget the fact that the Jews used a search and replace tool to turn Napushtin into Noah, Sargon into Moses, the Law Code of Hammurabi into the Ten Commandments and that's just from a small sample of the thousands of our cuneiform tablets that have beem as of yet deciphered. Imagine what the rest will reveal in the years to come.
What is really depressing is the realisation that even today some of our churches, such as the Syrian Orthodox Church,
still proudly preach in their sermons about the destruction of the Assyrians and what "heathen" and "barbarians" they were.
The entire Jewish Bible has ANTI-ASSYRIAN sentiments sprinkled throughout its pages.
We've even been stupid enough to base our holidays on this ANTI-ASSYRIAN book.
The Assyrian holiday Ba'oota D'Ninwaye (Rogation of the Ninevites) is one example.
It began today and will run for the next 3 days.
The holiday is based on the Jewish book of Jonah and the fable tells of an Assyrian King and the Ninevites who believed in the Jewish God yawheh.com and fasted for 3 days and 3 nights and were saved from destruction much to the dissapointment of Jonah.
It began today and Christian-Assyrians throughout the world will fast/abstain for 3 days and 3 nights in the hope that that Jewsih God yawheh.com will forgive them their sins.
It is basesd on a Jewish story made up in order to force Jews to turn back to Jehovah. In this Jewish fable the writer came up with the worst example of "sinners" and "heathen" he could think of at the time. They were our ancestors, the Assyrians.
The moral of this Jewish fable was that if these "scum-of-the-earth" Assyrians repented and turned back to Yawheh.com then why not you the "chosen" children of Israel?
And WE Christian-Assyrians took this Jewish fable and based one of our holidays on it!
I know that some Christian-Assyrians will probably attempt to use the "it show's our continuity" line. But it doesn't add up.
It's because the entire Jewish Bible is so filled with anti-Assyrian sentiment that the second we discoverd a fable in which we "heathen" were used as a lesson for, Yawheh.com's "chosen people", the Jews we jumped at the chance to turn this only semi-positive story about us into a religous holiday.
As bad as Islam may be at least IT doesn't bad-mouth our ancestors in their weekly sermons and create holdays that remind us on an annual basis what "heathen" we were.
Christianity has given us an inferiority complex of major proportions.
Khizma, perhaps it's about time we start becoming just a little more critical of our religion?
