Alex,
Sorry for switching back to Inglés, pero yo quiero decir te que I think that your command of the English language is commendable. Often times when one reads on internet forums, (ESPECIALLY Assyrian-Chaldean-etc forums), they find a group of people who have difficulty expressing themselves in coherent sentences.
I have found everything that you have said to be concise and you seem to express yourself very well... in English AND Spanish. Qué estudió en Nueva York? Sabría español en "high school" ... tomé las clases para 4 años. pero my spanish leaves much to be desired. I practice with my Indian room mate who has 5 years of spanish experience (from high school also)... but after not practicing it on a regular basis I lose a lot of vocabulary.
About your commend that you wouldn't expect Assyrians to speak spanish, hay un communidad grande en Mehico de las "Chaldeans"... my aunt is one of them. They moved to Mexico around 50 or so years ago and are very well established, and by now are mostly intermarried with Mexicans. Many of them speak Chaldean(Assyrian) in addition to Spanish, Arabic, and/or English.
Hasta... y Shlama
