The artists & poets (especially those who tend not to be cowardly politically correct), chefs, actors, comedians, musicians, djs, etc. are treated as second class citizens in our community. They are laughed at, their reputations destroyed, and some are shut out of the community. It is precisely those people who are going to be the most visable to the rest of the world through the nature of their work.
Their talents and creativity are blessings to the community.
How about we propose something like an artist's gallery for the convention this year? or a poetry reading/slam. open mike, a skit, actors workshop, something to encourage the youngin's who are considering the arts as a career path, but are discouraged by the way this community views it as a profession. i dunno...just thinkin' out loud. it's not too late to present ideas to the event planning committee for the convention.
