& while they're at it, they *could* debate adding a socioeconomic weight to affirmative action policies: the poorer background someone comes from, the more weight that candidate has - socioeconomic diversity would be good to see in universities, as well.
It's so ridiculous that the Supreme Court is debating affirmative action at universities (for admissions), when other students at those universities get in all the time through alumnus connections & money. It's not like the students that get in through money or connections are really getting in because they are the creme-de-la-creme of a merit based academic system. I don't see why they think letting in kids *partly* because a university wants racial diversity is a step down, is dumbing down the system - those kids are still being let in because they fulfill academic criteria, too. I've seen plenty of rich kids turn in shitty papers for their university classes & barely pay attention in class. Who's really dumbing down the system?...
