Haven't they been cheating the Native Americans of their heritage since this glorious country was founded?
I love going to a museum in the States, only to see Native American artifacts from South America - gorgeous, ingenious pre-Columbian works - hanging there on the wall or inside a glass exhibition case.... Or going to a museum in a former European colonial power & checking out their collections of antiquities from Africa & Asia....
They've been stripping indigenous peoples of their histories & artifacts for a long time.
THOUGH, someone did point out to me the other day that some "non-Western" cultures may not have had museums or practiced archaeology in those days, as museums & archaeology appear to be a Western cultural notion. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know much of the history of museums or the field of archaeology.
However, I can say that libraries have been around in the Mid East for ages....
