: I can't believe that we're not signing petitions online to try to get this activity, the looting of the hospitals, to end. OR that we're not signing petitions online in support of massive amounts of U.S. aid (not in the form of loans, of course) going to Iraq.
xxx I meant U.S. "aid" in the form of reparations, like Chomsky suggested.
xxx I mean, FOR GOODNESS SAKE, we have to work on empowering people in Iraq somehow. THAT'S how we're going to get to see our homeland flourish so much that getting back artifacts for museums will be no problem. If we don't demand reparations or try to work on rehabilitating the *people* AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, the place will be a war-zone for longer & more of our artifacts will be destroyed, right alongside the human lives that are crushed. The destruction of our artifacts can also be seen as a symbol of the destruction of the Iraqi population - the destructive humiliation some must have felt that they would be powerless against the U.S., its unjust, un-checked aggression against them in front of the rest of the world for so many years, & the destructive effects to their health thanks to the U.S.'s bombing & starving campaign.
xxx Personally, I would rather a million papers or artifacts be destroyed than one wide-eyed child die or suffer needlessly.
xxx It's like the Church in some ways.... there are people in the Church who care WAY too much about their idols, the trappings of Christianity, the ceremony, etc....
