Hm... what's important here...
First, the antiquities being looted off, so they can sit around in some Western museum or in some Western collector's gallery, while the articles, the books, the writings about what happened, historically in Iraq, are destroyed or perhaps meander slowly to Western archives.... That's another sifting process right there. & I still think that perhaps it serves as a big fat smokescreen, too. They're buying time. The media will concentrate mostly on these things - they are important, of course.
Meanwhile, looting & arson of civilian infrastructure continues, paid human bombs shattering the stuff & lives that the U.S. didn't want to bomb outright or the other stuff, besides antiquities or important documents, that needs delicate sifting through first....
The looters & arsons are probably going to keep going, probably hit the sites that Fisk mentions that haven't been looted or burned yet. It's just a matter of time. The looters & arsons might yet destroy the documents from Saddam's regime, not because they want revenge, but because perhaps they are being paid by a U.S. government that wants to cover its tracks.
