How ex-Iraqi nationals are treated in the U.S.:
We have NO privacy! Even at our loved ones' funerals, there are government agents that show up (to figure out who's connected with whom & how). Our lines are tapped, our emails read, & our children are taught to be suspicious of the U.S. government at an earlier age than most people. Oh, & whenever you want to leave the U.S. for any reason, the FBI interviews you before you go. THAT'S what it's like if you're lucky.
If you're not lucky, you win the entire fucking prize: you get all of the above AND you end up the victim of a hate crime (dead, injured, or having your property damaged), stuck in limbo in a prison somewhere waiting for the INS to something, ANYTHING about your case, or put in prison, an event that is HEAVILY publicized, for no reason at all when the U.S. government wants to make the Arab American community look bad.
