Again, not knowing the particulars of your situation: I always think the best thing to do is to keep oneself as uninvolved with any police force, intelligence agency, or sly stranger as possible. Why would anyone come to ME to "help" solve a crime, etc. if I'm NOT a part of it, somehow? Why can't that needy someone go to someone else? Esp. someone trying to uncover criminal activity: don't they have undercover cops for that reason? It's like getting one of those scam spam emails asking for "help" or money.... & in the end YOU get framed or have to deal with bullshit that keeps you from living your normal life, esp. taking away time from your work & reducing all that valuable family time everyone fights for these days.... You lose time & money, for what? There are other ways to prove my allegiance to my country &/or people, esp. through my work, thoughts, & community actions.
I'm just saying that there is a fine line one has to walk if one is a recent immigrant who wants to make a positive impression on one's neighbors in this country & yet stand up for the things that one believes in, esp. when neo-McCarthyism is setting other people up to have a bias against recent immigrants. Make sense? For instance: you have your art - why not contribute positively through your work? Why get involved in something that doesn't concern you, esp. when it could destroy your life, when there are other people who could do a better job in a criminal investigation (professionals)? This is different from, say neighborhood crime watch or calling in a tip that you saw a wanted criminal as you were driving to the store or something like that, of course....
Anyway, I don't know the situation so well, so maybe what I'm saying isn't relevant....
