Armenia willingly joined Russia when it wanted backing against Iranian aggressions. Then it wanted to break away when Russia was not needed. Russia wanted to keep Armenia, and so Armenia took longer to gain independence. Now, Armenia is slightly suported by Russia, and the US seems to want to have something to do with it all. Anyone got any info on this?
Also, Georgia is supported militarily somewhat by Russia, so that Russia can maintain its borders(internal conflicts in both Georgia and Russia), and now the US is extremely interested in Georgia. If I am not mistaken, the Georgian air force is about but a few airplanes, with light air defenses, and a total army of what? 15 or 20/25 thousand? I don't remember. I believe Azerbaidzan had about 60-70K, and armenia somewhat less. Does anybody know?
