When I say "the government," I mean *recent & current U.S. administrations.*

I think the current administration wants to keep the NASA space stuff to a bare minimum so that it would only feed defense industry interests. The media wants to focus on the shuttle incident to convince people that it's not safe (how safe is a car or airplane that's not working correctly?), & should only be used for a few missions to the space station or repair our satellites. A lot of good things can be done with & come out of work with satellites & space exploration & experiments conducted in a microgravity environment, but, the current U.S. administration is not interested in these things. It (the current administration) is only interested in feeding the corporations that support it & thus panders to those corporations desires (& those corporations are only interested in *selling*, not in gaining scientific knowledge). If it's research that has no relevance to defense, then those corporations don't care for it.
