Now I'm just curious for this years Assyrian Martyrs' Day Commemorations.

Are the 20 Assyrians killed in Bartilla (see article below) considered "Martyrs?"

I mean considering that Reverend Binyamen Hirmiz (one Assyrian) was an innocent bystander who was accidently killed in the crossfire between two warring Muslim Kurdish factions. Does that make him a martyr?

If so shouldn't the 20 Assyrians killed by US bombing also accidently killed in the crossfire between the Iraqi (Muslim) faction and the US (Christian) army, also be considered "Martyrs"?

What if they were bombed by an African-American pilot who's religion is Islam?

Would that now make them "Martyrs"?

Or does the "Martyr" rule only apply to the warring nation's official religious belief?

Isn't the US officially secular?

Do we or do we not havea religously-based sense of identity?

Just curious.
