I was stunned several years ago to hear a Sicilian New Yorker refer to someone as a "miskeen"...sure enough, it means the same thing. Itīs hardly an Italian word...but rather used to define the way most sailors...and many of them from Mesopotamia, felt when they landed in Sicily.
