I read her first in college way back when...the book was her first I think..."I know Why the Caged Bird Sings". But what I never knew till recently, or forgot, was that she was a hooker for awhile in her early years...not only that but when she levelled with her husband and son years later...her son put his arm around her and said she was the greatest lady he'd ever known or would be likely to know. A class act all the way.
