Dear Citizen,
Congratulations to all who took action on the Senate Medical Malpractice bill! It was defeated on July 9th, thanks to the efforts of citizens like you. The bill would have imposed a nationwide cap on non-economic damages and limited patients’ rights to hold faulty doctors, hospitals, and drug manufacturers accountable.
Citizen Works is making progress in the battle to curb CEO Greed by coordinating the grassroots effort to clean up the accounting of stock options. As we told you at the beginning of June, the momentum to close the stock options loophole is currently being stalled by efforts in Congress to derail the issue and send it “for further study.” If you haven’t already, please contact your Senators and Representatives and tell them to oppose S 979 and HR 1372! See our site for the latest: www.citizenworks.org/corp/options/options-main.php.
The media deregulation debate continues as Congress winds down for the summer. The Senate Commerce Committee passed two bills that will help restore a more diverse and democratic media, but in order to take it to the full Senate, your Senators need to hear from you! Please contact your Senator today-- let’s get a vote on this before the session ends next week! For more information, check our site: www.citizenworks.org/corp/media/media.php.
Keep up the good work,
Your Friends at Citizen Works
