Dirya went to the market, with Marys. They heard the people talking about recent bombing of some villages and cities in south Iraq. Some power lines were downed, and some generators were out. Dirya told some other men about the F-18s Marys had seen previously. They replied that they had also heard similar accounts, and soon they were all talking about all sorts of issues, including Saddam Hussein.
They pulled into the dusty area by the mud brick house, and Dirya got out of the car. Marys got out of the passenger side and they both walked into the cooler inside of the house. The sun, high in the sky, was taking its toll on the Iraqi sand and grass puffs in the area. Palm trees stayed still in the still warm air. The cloudless sky reached from one horizon to the next, from dilmun to Niniveh. The evening came, and it started to cool down, but only slightly, as the heat still lingered somewhat heavily around the mud brick building. Once again, the attack planes were striking ground targets, both British and American planes were involved on this new night. Forty thousand sorties had been carried out already.
