Eden Naby (Frye)

Eden Naby (Frye), a historian and researcher, has been a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School and a professor at Dushanbe Pedagogical Institute. She continues to lecture on identity and institutions among Afghans and Assyrian-Iranians in the United States, as well as religious minorities in the Middle East and the Diaspora. She is also an honorary editor for The Assyrian Star, the official magazine of the Assyrian-American Federation, and has written numerous articles on Assyrian culture, identity, and integration. Dr. Naby participated in the Assyrian International Conference in Moscow, where a group of intellectuals and researchers gathered to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discussing the preservation national identity and developing Assyrian existence worldwide. She organized "The Assyrian Experience: Sources for the Study of the 19th and 20th Centuries," her second exhibit at Harvard University devoted to an aspect of the history and culture of modern Assyrians. An independent consultant and the former treasurer of the Society of Iranian Studies, she is president of her own business, Naby-Frye Management, Inc. She holds a PhD in Central Asian studies from Columbia University.
Ms. Naby's peace-building activities include:
traveling to Pakistan to research and initiate an expedition to Afghanistan with Dan Rather to obtain footage for the first 60 Minutes program on this country;
escorting the first team of American newscasters to enter Afghanistan following the Soviet invasion, as well as interviewing several of the Mujahid leaders;
participating as a panelist at numerous conferences, including a US Institute of Peace meeting where more than 140 policymakers, academics, and journalists discussed the future of Afghanistan, regional security, and US foreign policy; and co-authoring Afghanistan: Mullah, Marx, and Mujahid, which outlines the tumultuous history of the country and its people.
