: To have dragged Jeff into this was a huge mistake. There is hardly another young man we have...that I know of, who has greater promise and has achieved already as much as Jeff. His work with CARE will speak for itself...his work to clear ghettos of trash, to bring food to poor Chaldeans and Assyrians in Detroit...painting and fixing up homes with a Jewish group, head of the Religion and Culture Committee for CARE, in charge of the annual Art Exhibit...
Fred,
Thanks for the kind words. Really.
I suppose I should clarify: Last year, I was in charge of 'finding the artists' for the art exhibit, and I helped put on the event, but I was in no way "in charge" of the entire exhibit. That duty lies with the head of the fundraising committee, and what an amazing art exhibit it turned out to be! It was our most successful art exhibit in CARE's 5 year history.
The organization that we worked on the houses with was called "Blightbusters". They are well known in the Detroit area. CARE and Temple Israel decided to do a joint effort...called it "JACOB (Jewish and Chaldean Opportunity Builders)" and last year we tore down a drug house, and we planted sod and cleaned up new homes on a different street that were built after a separate drug house was tore down by the same organization.
You should have seen the look on Mr. George's(the head of Blightbusters) face when he saw just how hard this group of Chaldean and Jewish teenagers were working. There were also Chaldean and Jewish adult supervisors. We went through like 3 gigantic dumpsters of trash in one day... tearing down that house. He didn't even think that we could get through 1 entire dumpster full in a day.
Anyway, that's my clarification. Hope it doesn't incriminate me further.
