Of course, I realize that there are some people (backed by corporations) who argue for decentralized power on some issues - people who would wish to take advantage of the rights of states to implement their own environmental, health care, & welfare laws to the disadvantage of the poor, etc.

Basically, there is a lot of manipulation by corporations to have things their way at the state level as well. So, to blindly argue that there is an absolute solution to this problem - that federal government should have power over state governments or vice versa - is also naive.
