Jeff,
I know you are a good-hearted person and very tolerant. The problem with our relationship with the Kurds isn't that a few Kurds hated or killed Assyrians, the problem was that Kurds ganged up on the smaller Assyrians/Chaldeans, like packs of animals. Their leaders, some of whom were evil, could not have done what they did had it not been for the cooperation of the general population. We can still hopefully move to a new chapter in the relationship between us and them, but they have to prove that they are a more tolerant and just people with regards to Christian Assyrians/Chaldeans. I don't think they have proved that yet. It has nothing to do with hate for me, it is simply survival instincts.
