Assyrians' memorial
The Assyrian-American Civic Club dedicated a granite memorial to the victims of the terrorist attacks last year.
"Let us stand together tonight for the men and women and children who lost their lives," said Dr. Fred Adams, club president. "Let's keep their memories alive."
He and several other speakers said it was communities like the Assyrian population that helped make America strong by sharing and learning values of other cultures. Assyrian, city, county and state representatives all shared that message.
"We are one of the most diverse nations in the world with a diversity of cultural patterns and religious beliefs," said Lazar Piro, president of the Assyrian National Council of Stanislaus.
"Rather than fearing and resisting these differences, we are making efforts to understand our similarities."
