: Let's rise to the challenge for a change.
Fred,
What you say makes so much sense. It's true that there is so much that we do NOT agree on, and never will... but if there's one thing that the convention taught me (something that I kind-of already knew), it was that these artificial barriers that our people love to cling to do not exist.
That T-shirt with your cartoon was a hit with "Assyrians", "Chaldeans", and "Syriacs" from America, Canada, Sweden, and other parts of the world. The idea resonated... humor... it's nice to at least find humor in our situation... keeps one motivated.
We had a "posse" if you will, with a Chaldean or two, a few Assyrians, some Suryoyos, a few half and quarter-breeds within those 3 groups, and throw a part Armenian doctor in, and even a half-Assyrian and half-German (I know that YOU are reading here!!)... talk about diversity. We got along better than I could have ever imagined. Everybody that I met at the convention seemed to already have "met" me, here, on the forum, by reading here.... though I had never been introduced to them.
I think that the international effort to save Lina's life will be one that sets an example in our community. Nobody "alone" can take credit for helping her, and I hope she makes it through. People of all religious "sects", of all dialects, and from all countries helped her. It is my sincere hope that we can start a foundation to do exactly this in the future for others.
There are several people interested in doing this, and in the near future I'll be able to say more about it.
In the meantime, keep your eyes on the prize, people.
