On Sunday, in the southern Iraqi port town of Basra, U.S. and British warplanes bombed a civilian airport for the second time in three days.
During the attack, a U.S. delegation including Congressman David Bonior of Michigan, Jim McDermott of Washington and Mike Thompson of California were in Basra as part of a controversial tour of Iraq.
On Sunday, McDermott came under fire from Republican legislators for suggesting that President Bush may spread lies to help build his case against Iraq.
"For him to be in Baghdad, the center of one of the most dangerous dictators in the world, with all kinds of weapons of mass destruction, to be questioning the veracity of our own American president, is the height of irresponsible," said Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott, R-Mississippi. "He needs to come home and keep his mouth shut."
We talk to Congressman Jim McDermott from his hotel room in Baghdad and hear a speech from Phyllis Bennis on U.S. war plans.
