One of the things I used to enjoy about the Federation conventions took place at the start of each Sunday banquet...the main event. The president of the federation would clear his throat...call us to attention...and we'd all lean in real close to hear...the letters from government officials who'd been invited ...but couldn't come. And they never could come.
It didn't matter to us...we liked being noticed at all, and even a rejection means someone knew you well enough to reject you.
Another thing...this quaint notion that if you point out flaws in us, you don't show respect for us...is just what you'd expect from people who don't want their peckerdillos pointed out...and who depend on this kind of mandated respect for anyone who uses the word "Assyrian" to keep us from pointing out their mistakes and idiocies...tells you more about where we are, in this country at least, than anything a Muslim did to us anytime.
Someday we'll have to give up this blame game..."The Muslims Did It To Us"....but not the boys...the boys deliberately want to see nothing done for us in America because it means shifting their focus...and they have no hope in hell of being Grat anythings in America...certainly not as Assyrians. It's far more inviting to keep harping on the Mideast...though these guys have no intention of ever returning...and blame their personal failures on Muslims and Saddam or a sultan or two.
Some did stop my monuments...it wasn't a Muslim either.
