Dear Mr. President,
I urge you not to be detered by those who say a war in Vietnam will lead to thousands of deaths and injuries among American soldiers. We have to strike now if we are to protect ourselves against the greatest scourge the world has ever seen. Do we have to wait till they come to our shores before we act?
And please ignore those who ask for some proof that we were fired upon by a Vietcong gunboat...frankly I find it insulting and unpatriotic of any American to voice doubt at what out Commander in Chief and freely elected president tells the American people. Are these enemy sympathizers trying to tell us that our own president would lie to us? Why? What could possibly beneift any American from sending us off to war?
We need to show our own people, our allies, and all our enemies in the world that we will stand firm and tall for freedom and democracy so there will be peace in the world finally.
I am certain, and I know that you, Mr. President, and indeed the entire Free World knows that we are the greatest hope for stability and peace on this planet and that our way of life is cherished and respected by all. And it is one we have to be prepared to make great sacrifices for if we are to have peace in the future. If there is anything I can do, just let me know.
And so I say to you, President Johnson, God speed and may we get what we deserve...what we truly deserve.
Sincerely,
George W Bush.
