xxx If the masses do not like their ruler, then they should depose him, themselves. The sanctions have basically left the masses unable to do this, so the *best* way to let the people of Iraq, if they so desire, to depose their ruler is to have the sanctions lifted, which would allow them to recuperate economically, physically, etc. It's disgusting, this notion that Iraqis have no brains & no strength to do what is good for them, so the US military has to do it for them, help them b/c they are weak (for no reason - the US gov't denies any connection btwn the sanctions & the affects on the civilian population). Iraqis may not have the strength right now to depose Saddam b/c the sanctions took it away from them.

I don't care for the Baatheys or Saddam as much as I don't particularly care for Bush... or any other man who thinks he has the right to control a population of people.

It's not a question of whether or not Saddam & his cohorts are "good" or "bad" so much as a question of whether a war is something "good" or "bad" for the people of Iraq. To have another war against Iraq in which the US strategically attacks all of the civilian infrastructure & the 10's of 1,000's of civilians themselves, again, would seem like nothing more than an exercise in human cruelty.

& who gave the US gov't the right to select the "appropriate" ruler(s) of an autonomous nation? What if, in the future, the US gov't dislikes the Queen of England - would the US military be sent there on a mission to replace her?

Doc, the Republicans do NOT view Iraqi oil as the property of Iraqis. They honestly view the oil in Iraq as the property of the US. & they think this property has to be defended from "evildoers." It's like a spoiled child who thinks he/she can take whatever he/she wants from other people w/o having to pay.
