Pancho, is there a documentary about Assyrians from ancient to modern times that one could have shown on PBS? If not, can our community have one made? I find it rather silly that so many Assyrians are so busy "protesting" misconceptions about our community, that they waste all of their energy on protesting this & that, instead of being more proactive & attempting to create &/or nationally syndicate a film about the community's history from ancient to modern times. We have one excellent outside resource in Professor Parpola... another thing, though is that the documentary would have to be something that makes us proud - none of that political bullshit against Muslims can be in it, except perhaps when documenting the Christian persecution (from a fair perspective - include remarks made by Muslim historians, as well). In other words, it shouldn't embody, in any way, Peter's attitude. & it should include perspectives on our community from insiders as much as outsiders. It should be a film that accentuates our past & present so that we can feel proud to show it w/in our community & to others outside our community, even & esp. others outside our immediate religious community who are, broadly speaking, ethnically Middle Eastern.
What do you think?
