: It's also the parents' responsibility to teach a child critical thinking & if the parents can't provide that kind of training, then it's the neighbors' & friends' responsibility.
xxx I mean to train/teach by example. I don't mean that children should be forced into "critical thinking" sessions by parents, neighbors, or friends. What we don't have in this society, are very many examples, real-life examples for kids, of adults who dare to think critically, to challenge inappropriate intrusions by a gov't into the lives of its citizens or by media into the thought processes of those who are exposed to it. E.g. corporations don't want people to think critically - to challenge what they're told they need - so it's not something you can expect to see too much of in the corporate media. This, I think, has an effect on real-life adults & children - we are influenced by our environments as humans - so when we are surrounded by the media, we are influenced by it... & we have been weaned from our old tradition of challenging ideas in general & consequently, the dictates of our gov't are no longer debated - & we have been effectively reintroduced into an even older tradition of conforming to the desires of those who have "power" over us.
