For years we heard of Saddam trying to change history...to say that Assyarians were all Arabs...even going back to the ancients...that he was "changing names" and telling the world these lies...when it was our Christians who were lying. What a stupid thing it would be for Saddam, or anyone, or for a country hose "lying" scholars are dealing with international experts to do such a thing...and why...when this ridiculous claim would negate their own true history of having come out of Arabia to ward off the murderous Byzantines? To try now to convince the world that the ancient Assyrians were "almost the same thing as" Muslims...is EXACTLY what our Christians are saying. THEY are the ones trying to stand history on its head by explaining that the ancient Assyrians were "as good as Christian anyway"...so what if we went a tad further and threw away Ashur?

Two years ago I finally visited an Iraqi site on the web and what do I see but a homepage that shows images from our ENTIRE history...there is the Lamasu, a prtrait of an Assyrian king...the crescent of Islam AND the cross of the Roman executioners...who could imagine a homepage made by Christians that would show the symbol of Islam? And entering the site there were pages dedicated to the Assyrians with no mention at all of their having been "Arabs". Indeed their take on our history is sane and rational. All Iraqis have said is that the Assyrians were one part of their rich and unparalleled legacy...a legacy that went on to change yet again and again as it had ALWAYS done...Having gone from the worship of Marduk, Bel, Shamash to Ashur, to the worship of Jesus and finally and for the majority, to a worship of Islam...that's all.

WE are the ones...we Christians, who've tried to claim an exclusive religiously based identity...scuttling history and lying about what Muslim Assyrians have REALLY done...while also hiding what we are REALLY doing. Christians who now blather about being the only real Assyrians...because they are Christian and use the ancient language in their church service and most of them don't even do that any longer as many more each year don't speak the language at all...the Christians are the ones causing the disruption and allowing themseves and asking to be used as the conduit by which a religion will dominate Iraq...not Muslims...who've had no trouble accepting a Christian minority...when it behaves as members of the commonwealth and NOT the "original and indigenous" people...whose religion came from Israel and whose loyalties are to ANY Christian country before their own.
