This stela of Shamshi-Adad V, portrays the king with his right hand extended, in supplication before the five main Assyrian gods, symbolized above his forehead. A symbol of authority, a mace ,is held in his left hand and a distinct winged cross is hung around his neck to symbolize Shamash, the Assyrian sun god. http://www.neiu.edu/~lojajou/myIndividual/kinglist/Shamshadadpict1.gif Damn forum thingie doesn't allow me to add the picture in 'Image/Logo' Anyway, I know you were a jeweller in your former life. So I was thinking it would be great if we had jewellery, i.e. braclets, rings, necklaces, ear-rings etc. of our ancient Gods made in silver, gold andf lapiz-lazuli. I know there would be many Assyrian in Melbourne who'd love to wear our ancient symbols around their neck. P.S. I know the winged cross around Shamshi's neck is another thing the Jews lifted from our ancient ancestors. --------------------- |
