I’ve read the post following this one, several times. I’m trying to get beyond the anger, justified though it may be. I am trying to see not just what is true or false, but I’m trying to understand how all of this is helping anyone, Christian, Moslem, Jew, whomever. I understand the anger. I’m angry too. So what? What good does it do, to vent. I’m angry that religion has to be thrown into any discussion of our people. Religion is a stumbling block and always will be. I don’t have an axe to grind against anyone, regardless of their religious or non-religious persuasion (that’s their business), and I respect their right to believe whatever they want. Sure, we are all guilty of saying stupid things at one time or another. Sometimes we learn from our stupid mistakes, sometimes we just get more stupid. I want to gain a better understanding, not from the people I agree with, what profit is there in that? I’m tired of the back-slapping, I’m tired of the “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours,” mentality, so common among all people. But how do you help a people, like the Assyrians, who feel so defeated, are fed the milk of defeatism from infancy, by beating them down even more? And when the rod that you beat them with is their religious belief, then you are only going to make them more bitter, resentful and violent.
It’s wonderful to be insightful, intellectually honest and profoundly wise, but if it is not helping others to rise above their problems, then maybe it really only proves, that we, the critics, are vain, self-seeking people, trying to inflate our own self-image. Say whatever you will about the Assyrian people, true or untrue, but, after you’ve stripped away all the labels, all the epithets, all the criticism, all the anger and frustration, they are just as human as anyone else, just as deserving of compassion, understanding and forgiveness too. Instead of condemning them for the stupid things they say or do, shouldn’t some of us ask, “what can I do to help them?” Criticism can be beneficial if it is given in a spirit of good will, but if it is only done with the intent to beat a dead horse, then what is its real, true purpose?
Every group of people on this planet has experienced something about their history that is unique, and they naturally view their group with a certain pride, as unique and interesting. The world would be a very dull place if everything was the same everywhere. Everyone, therefore, struggles to raise themselves up to a level where they feel that they are accepted as a member of the human family. So, unless, we are all going to live in seclusion, we must find a way for everyone to attain a just level of dignity as equal members of the human family. This means everyone, period! But, why must Assyrians be any different? In my opinion the greatest harm that has been visited upon our people is the rejection they feel as an invisible people. Rightly or wrongly, they have been taught from the cradle that they are the descendants of the Ancient Assyrians. Conversely, and rightly or wrongly, they have been told by most of the world that they are not Assyrians, ergo, they are nothing; they have no right to self-rule, sovereignty or anything else. Why? Because we are too few. “Just die out, blend in, assimilate, stay out of our hair, you’re screwing up our foreign policy.” Rightly or wrongly, the world spits in our face and tells us, “You have no rights as a minority, because you are not a minority, you are nothing… just disappear.” How would any similar group of people think, feel, and act, given those same circumstances? How many ways and how many times must these people be put down before it gets tiresome and boring and downright stupid itself? Are there any groups of people on the face of this planet that have cornered the market on stupidity? Every group is composed of human beings, ergo, we have all made stupid mistakes, but what will help us correct those mistakes. Is it really necessary to constantly harp on the negative aspects of the Assyrians? Can’t we at least attempt to say something good about them once in a while?
I don’t think it serves any good purpose to blame the Assyrian people for the military destruction, killing and maiming of the innocent people of Iraq. It is pure speculation to assume that most Assyrians supported the war on Iraq. Regardless, of how many Assyrians may have agreed or disagreed with the policies of the Bush administration and the overthrow of Saddam, (and no survey has ever been taken that I know of), it wouldn’t have changed the U.S. position, intent or outcome of their policies. Personally, I believe there are far more Assyrians who opposed the slaughter of innocent Iraqis, Moslems or Christian, than supported the war. Those Assyrians who spout off about death to anyone who opposes Assyrian rights in Iraq are fewer in number than you can count on the fingers of one hand. The fact that they are so vocal, tells you that they have virtually no support.
I started out by stating that I had read the following post several times. When I read it the first time, I recognized that there was something there that I too felt angry about, but not in the same way. Those things that I agreed with I saw mostly as the result of circumstances, fate, the natural order, or simply a historical process that just happened. When you actually live through certain experiences, you don’t always sit down and analyze the why and the wherefore. Especially when you are living a simple agrarian existence in an undeveloped part of the world and your day to day existence is not governed by political intrigue, but rather, “how can I help my family survive another day? It’s easy to sit back as an armchair philosopher and toss around thunderbolts, with little or no concern for where they will land. Sometimes, those verbal slings and arrows are more devastating than outright physical exchanges between groups or individuals. Still, I had to read it again and again, because I wanted to understand better, the personal aspect of this, post, which seems to run as a common thread through most exchanges between Assyrians, myself included. Your criticism, is very different than most, however. Your posts are the most complex and difficult posts to decipher because of the anger you display. Even when the meaning is really subtle, it is often couched in angry terms. Still, when one can get past all that anger, there is a lot of food for thought. There is more there that is worthy of serious consideration than I have seen anywhere else, with the exception of the religious topic. I will not discuss the religious topic any more on this or any other Forum. It goes nowhere and will always go nowhere.
I really had no intention of returning here or to any other Forum. I’m tired of all the mud-slinging from both sides. I do like to exchange views, but the rancor and the bitterness that I saw in myself as well as in others has tempted me to just walk away and never turn back. I might still do that.
One last thing, Farid, no more concessions, please! That ticked me off more than anything else you ever said in your posts. If you want to get rid of me, just tell me to screw off… I do a greatest disappearing act.

Your Post:

The reason I come across as angry is because I am. The boys are cynically manipulating a situation to their own empty headed benefit...not a one of them has any intention of going back to live among people who are out to cut their fingers off to get a cheap ring...this is all by way of egging on the United States to kill Muslims for them. They speak of their rights and injustices suffered yet they knew damn well all along that children were being killed in Iraq and may of them Christian yet they said this was merely regrettable, not a crime against humanity of the highest order or at least also an injustice...they knew there were no WMDs and have dropped that hot topic of just a few months ago without a word about the lies put out and urged on by them that resulted in untold suffering for people they hate simply because they are Muslim.

I'm angry because they try to hide the fact that Islam has every good reason to distrust CHRISTIANS for their repeated acts of disloyalty and instead claim they are hated solely because they are Assyrians...when they have never done anything remotely Assyrian except dance and eat and who can hate them for that? They are distrusted because they behave in ways that lead officials to believe they are eager for ANY Christian force to come "liberate" their lands..and we can see once again just how much death and suffering that entails..but, they never talk of that..only of 1456 and 1789 and 1889 and 1915. I'm angry because they so callously come yammering about their rights as Christians, at a time like this when Christians have devastated that country and in the same breath claim that means Assyrians too, when we all know Assyrians were never Christians and if these Christians ever stopped believing in Christ they would NOT be Christians, yet they claim it made no difference when as Assyrians they stopped believing in Ashur and are GLAD they did.

I'm angry because of their intellectual dishonesty, never mind their stupidity. They know damn well it's about denominations, they know there's a big difference between Yahwe and Ashur...they know no governing body anywhere accepts their claims to being Assyrians descended directly and PURELY from people they no longer share anything with. I'm angry because they still foolishly believe someone is going to give them a country...or anything...that the UN, which they believe should intercede on their behalf began its career by STEALING land from Palestine.

I'm angry at the way they prostitute everything...like the language that through a complete accident happened to be the language of their church which they now claim is their original language when it's just the language they worshipped a Jew god with. I'm angry because it's obvious they care nothing for teaching the language for its own sake anywhere in the world they're free to do so and have been for 100 years...but have done nothing...and I'm angry that they use this language claim as a mere device to slander Islam when we all know they want to use it to teach their church's propaganda about how they are ALL Assyrians and their lands were stolen from them, which never...and like that's never happened to anyone before in the world for the last 9000 years.

I'm angry that they are so cowardly as to prove we are correct in everything we say about them because they can't defend their silly ass positions for a second and instead lock themselves away where they can spin their fables.

They are completely harmless...they have no army and never will...they will never unite but split more and more...and they can only smear our good name if we let them...for all that has to happen is for people to read them and then read us and others for it to be clear that this is on enormous scam they're trying to pull off on EACH OTHER...for not a one of them would dare stand up where he or she could be heard and say these ridiculous things.

But they make themselves available for "use" like any whore on a street corner...whatever politician has an agenda that includes slandering Islam as a way of provoking more attacks against innocent people knows he can use the boys...just as if they were whores on a street corner, in any way he wants to...all he has to do is bring them a gift...a pat on the fanny, a free meal or a ride in his fancy car and they're his, body and soul and lips and ass for the night or as long as it takes him to get off. THAT'S the most despicable thing about them...that they have no moral compass and think it's great that the world knows they are for sale...hell they ADVERTISE.

I’m angry...it beats compassionately killing people for Christ.
