That`s been the end result of all of this. If you`re going to betray the god of your fathers and mothers...the god of the land...of the soil and the mountains and rivers...why stay there? Why indeed. And they haven`t. Their own exodus has taken years to achieve but it`s coming ever closer and closer and of course, good riddance. Good riddance because in their eagerness and from the early habit of treachery they embraced as a mark of their TRUE Assyrianism...they went on to be traitors to each other..to their children, their parents, neighbors and ultimately the very land that doesn`t want to see them any longer.

The Assyrians who converted to Islam at least had a stake in maintaining their territorial and political integrity...and of course they rose up once again to awe the world under the banner of Islam. The only way Christians could have remained would have been to convert to Islam..which is exactly what those Assyrians who now rule Iraq did.

There`s no home for Christians in Iraq any longer...not even in those mountain villages where they`ve been quaking with fear all these centuries. It`s over...and just as soon as the oil runs out..or there is a unified front again...the building process can begin. Anyone, aware of history and the tenacity of the Assyrians would be wise to place his or her bets on their rising up again...Assyrians, not Christians.

And the ultimate cynnical move is the effort to keep Christians there in abject poverty and under constant threat of reprisal..and wouldn`t you know it? That`s exactly what the Christians safely and properously OUTSIDE of Iraq want to do their "dear" people inside. All we`ve ever done is lead our own Christians to slaughter..but then that was Christ`s message and promise all along..like his own father relentlessly pursued him to his execution. These people have indeed been "real" Christians...and may they rot slowly for it.
